Art Erotica 2012 Painting

22 Mar 2012 / 1 Comment / in Misc/by kristin
I just finished my painting for the ArtErotica 2012 show! ArtErotica raises money for the Paul Kirby Emergency Fund managed by Aids Services of Austin to provide emergency assistance to those living with HIV/AIDS and every penny spent goes directly into this fund.

I chose to do a tasteful portrait of the one and only “Queen of Pinups,” Betty Page. I recently began painting on wood rather than canvas, and am very happy with the results. I love the way the wood grain adds a subtle texture to the overall painting. This painting is quite large – 3′X4′ and will be up for auction at the show on April 7th. If you want a statement piece, this is the one for you!

The Color Run

06 Feb 2012 / 4 Comments / in Misc/by kristin

This weekend I participated in the Color Run. This isn’t any 5k race. Along the trail were four spots in which you were sprinkled with a saturated, brightly colored powder that left you looking like a Jackson Pollock painting. The wind was quite strong and you could see in the distance the vibrant colors floating across the trail, softly landing on the ground to create a blanket of magnificent color.

Because this is Austin, and Texas has crazy unpredictable weather, it had rained the night before and the ground had become a thick, slippery mud bath. I did witness a couple of people who’s shoes succumbed to the stubborn mud, running in their socks! Once we reached the finish line we were each handed a bag of color to throw at each other while rocking out to the music. This was such an awesome experience. I could imagine what it is like to celebrate the Festival of Colors. Whoever said a 5k couldn’t be artistic?

Finding Inspiration in France

Recently I took a trip of a lifetime. I went to Paris, France to visit by brother, sister-in-law, and newborn niece who live there. I have been to Paris a few times before, but for some reason this trip was different than all of the others. There is something about the city that leaves me feeling energized, excited, and inspired. There is nothing like Paris.

Photos by Kristin Freeman, except for the ones I’m in of course:

Here I am sitting on the steps from Midnight In Paris:

The city of Lights!

In front of the Louvre:

From my brother and sister-in-law’s flat you can walk anywhere, which is an incredible feeling. No matter what, you can get from point A to B either by walking, renting a bicycle, or taking the metro.

La Basilique Du Sacre-Ceur:

You cannot help but be inspired by the history that is right in front of your eyes. Paris is full of incredibly old, majestic cathedrals, monuments, and museums. There is also plenty of elaborate window shopping, art, fashion, decadent bakeries, cheese shops, and bustling cafes. Small business owners are everywhere.

The picture perfect Jardin des Tuileries:

Europeans really know how to relax and enjoy life. Our mornings began with espresso and an assortment of breads, croissants, and at least 5 different cheeses. My family and I would all sit on the floor of their small bright orange living room, packed like sardines around their coffee table, chatting and laughing away. There is nothing better than enjoying a fabulous home cooked meal and great conversation with the people you love.

If you have a little girl she’ll love this online store called Tiny Frock Shop! They sell stylish, gently used vintage doll clothing as well as new hand made designs. The owner, Pamela Thompson, worked in the fashion industry for Betsy Johnson, among others, before creating this online store. What a great way to recycle.

A few of the many great pieces from the Tiny Frock Shop:
